Arbres, a graphic interpretation of trees, is a new series of work by Yahia Ouled Moussa. Individually hand painted using black, acrylic paint, each tree is inspired by photographs taken over the course of more than 20 years. The project was first inspired by a cherry tree that grew outside his old studio in Lyon and since developed into a range of work that includes a variety of sizes including these 8 1/4" x 12" works on paper, as well as larger versions on arches paper and vellum, and wall paintings.
The matte black paint against the thick paper gives the impression from afar that the works are prints or photographs, but when you get close you see all the tiny brushstrokes and details that come out in painting. This is a poetic body body of work, and a departure from his furniture design and clothing.
This piece is painted on cotton 300g paper. The painting is mounted on black board.
